New facelifted 2017 BMW M4 revealed

BMW updates M4 Coupe with new LED lights, slight styling revisions, plus new options in the cabin

BMW has revealed a facelifted 4 Series for 2017, and as expected the range topping M4 has also received some changes.

As expected from our previous spy shots the revisions are minor, with the M4 gaining new LED headlights with hexagonal lighting signatures similar to the lights seen on the new 5 Series saloon.

The new LED lights are standard, but buyers will be able to spec new adaptive LED headlights too.

Sitting underneath the new headlights, the front apron of the car has been adjusted with a new wide central air intake.

Around the back the new M4 gets revised taillights. The new units are also fully LED, and usher in an altered horizontal lighting signature.

Alongside the minor exterior changes, the interior receives one or two tweaks with new materials plus new upholstery and trim options. Some interior trim pieces such as the air outlet surrounds are now electroplated, while chrome trim now appears around the air conditioning and audio switchgear. The centre console gets a gloss black panel, and the steering wheel rim has also been tweaked.

Three new leather upholstery options – Midnight Blue, Cognac and Ivory White – are now available, and new trim options such as Carbon Aluminium, Light Fineline and High Gloss Black with Pearl Chrome strips also make the cut. The infotainment user interface has been updated, and the Multifunctional Instrument Display also makes the options list.

Under the bonnet the twin-turbo 3.0-litre inline-six engine remains, still producing 425bhp for the same 4.2-second 0-62mph dash when fitted with the DCT gearbox. BMW has tweaked the suspension and steering though, and says that the new 4 Series models should be a little stiffer and more stable.

If the subtle styling changes aren’t enough, new M Performance styling packs are available on the M4 such as the £3,000 Carbon package, which adds carbon fibre styling elements and tweaks.

The new M4 will go on sale in March, so a debut at the Geneva Motor Show is expected. Prices for the new M4 will start from £57,817, representing a premium of nearly £800 on the outgoing model.
