Ford Fiesta ST opens up with new five-door model

Hot hatch favourite is now more practical with five-door variant from £18,495

The Ford Fiesta ST, one of our favourite hot hatchbacks, is now available as a more practical five-door model. The two extra doors mean access to the rear seats is better, and Ford predicts that around 25 per cent of customers will go for this new variant.

It costs from £18,495, which is £600 more than an entry-level Fiesta ST-1 in three-door form. The only real change is the addition of the extra doors, as the same 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine with 180bhp is under the bonnet.

With 240Nm of torque, it manages the 0-62mph sprint in 6.9 seconds. Economy is down slightly, with 46.3mpg not quite matching the three-door's 47.9mpg figure. Similarly, emissions of 141g/km of CO2 are higher than the three-door's 138g/km figure.

You still get the clever chassis that incorporates torque vectoring and three-mode stability control too, as well as the same standard kit. That includes 17-inch alloy wheels, a sportier grille design and a rear diffuser. Recaro seats and ST badging mark out the car from the inside, too.

The five-door ST follows the recent launch of the 197bhp Fiesta ST200, which gets a revised suspension set up and extra power to help it go from 0-62mph in just 6.7 seconds. That model is only available as a three-door, however.
