New Isuzu D-Max XTR Colour Edition adds extreme green highlights

The Isuzu D-Max XTR Colour Edition also adds new paint finishes to the truck’s Mad Max-style looks

Isuzu has revealed a new limited edition pick-up truck in the form of the D-Max XTR Colour Edition. It builds on the Mad Max-style looks of the existing Ford Ranger Raptor rival and adds a couple of extra cosmetic tweaks, too.

Like the regular XTR, the Colour Edition is set apart from the rest of the D-Max range thanks to a menacing body kit. The front gets more cladding around the grille, a deep front air intake and revised bumper design, it rides on black 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 32-inch Pirelli all-terrain tyres, while the back there’s a new spoiler, bumper and tail light surrounds.

But with the exception of the fog light surrounds and grille, these parts on the Colour Edition are colour coded, rather than the black finish applied to the same parts on the existing XTR. Elsewhere, there’s a black finish to the side steps and door mirrors, and the rear windows are tinted. There are four main body paint colours to choose from: Splash White, Titanium Silver Metallic, Obsidian Grey Mica and Cosmic Black Mica.

The Colour Edition takes the XTR’s contrasting lime green inserts a step further. The finish is applied to the Isuzu logo on the nose, trim inserts on the wheel arch extensions, the front brake calipers and on elements of the suspension, including the front springs, dampers all round and and rear anti-roll bar.

The green highlights continue on the inside. The interior, trimmed in a mix of black leather and suede, gets green contrast stitching on the seats (heated in the front) and the flat-bottomed steering wheel, plus green XTR logos embroidered on the front seat backrests and centre rear headrest.

The mechanical upgrades go further than the green paint, though. The Pedders suspension features a new upper front arm, which combined with the uprated dampers allows for greater wheel articulation than on the standard D-Max. The ride height has increased too, giving the XTR a 250mm ground clearance. The brake discs, meanwhile, are vented and grooved, and gripped by kevlar ceramic front pads.

Prices and exact production allocation will be confirmed once Isuzu showrooms open post-lockdown, but expect a slight increase over the current XTR, which is priced from £34,000 plus VAT.
