 Jaguar XF 2.2D Luxury

When you’re spending over £30,000 on a tow car, you want plenty of pulling power, but just as essential is the ability to carry your kit and passengers in luxury. And the XF ticks all the right boxes with its plush interior, comfortable ride and cruising ability.

The beautifully crafted cabin and plush leather seats were both highlights, while the elegant dash not only looks the part but is a doddle to use, too. Towing the large four-berth Pegasus GT65 Verona didn’t pose any problems for this sleek saloon, and its 197bhp, 450Nm 2.2-litre diesel blew the judges away.

At cruising speeds, the Jaguar is effortless, and as quiet as a church mouse. The eight-speed auto enhances the driving experience further. In fact, it’s easy to forget you’ve got a caravan hitched, as the XF powers up the hills relentlessly.

The suspension soaks up most bumps at speed, although it can be slightly unsettled when travelling more slowly on less-than-perfect surfaces. Unfortunately, there are a couple of issues. Rear passengers get good legroom, but headroom is limited due to the sloping roof.

Still, while the boot isn’t the most spacious in the class, the rear seats fold to increase capacity. And as you’d expect, the XF has a whole host of goodies as standard, like touchscreen controls, xenon headlamps and LED running lights. Stop-start features, too.

A claimed economy figure of 54.3mpg is good for such a large car, and road tax is £125 a year. So for mixing tow car practicality with style, the XF is a top choice.
