Mazda 2 - best small automatic cars

Sporty superminis don't come much sportier than the Mazda 2, even if you can't get a hot hatch variant. It's sharp looks give clues to the sharp handling underneath, while Mazda's latest G-Vector torque control system to boosts cornering.

Mazda offers a six-speed auto with the mid-sized version of the 1.5-litre petrol engine that's the only option in the 2 line-up. This 90PS version is offered in SE-L and Sport trims, and both can be had with the auto box for about £1,200 extra. Fuel economy doesn't take as much of a hit here as it does in rivals, with a claimed 58.9mpg for the auto, compared to 62.8mpg for the manual.
