Limited edition Mazda MX-5 Sport Venture on sale now

Just 160 examples of the Mazda MX-5 Venture will be sold in the UK, each sporting a grey fabric roof and bespoke trim

Mazda has launched a new, limited edition version of the MX-5, called the Sport Venture. It features a range of cosmetic tweaks over the standard car, along with some extra exclusivity as only 160 units will make it to the UK. Prices start from £27,615.

Upgrades over the standard Mazda MX-5 include 16-inch alloy wheels, a grey fabric roof, silver door mirror caps and a Deep Crystal Blue Mica paint finish, which is normally a £570 optional extra. LED headlamps also come as standard, as do rear parking sensors.

Buyers also get a couple of interior tweaks, including silver roll hoops (this finish is applied to the door mirrors, too) and light stone nappa leather upholstery for the seats, dashboard and door cards. Heated seats, climate control, a seven-inch infotainment system and a premium Bose stereo all feature as standard as well.

The MX-5 Sport Venture is only available with Mazda’s entry-level 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine, which develops 130bhp and 152Nm of torque.

It’s mated to a six-speed manual gearbox and in the lightweight Japanese roadster is enough for a 0-62mph time of 8.3 seconds and a top speed of 127mph, all while returning up 44.8mpg on the WLTP combined cycle.

There’s also a fair level of standard safety equipment, including traffic sign recognition, lane departure warning, autonomous emergency braking and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

Mazda is known for its many special edition MX-5s, and they’ve been a big part of the world’s best-selling two-seater roadster since it was introduced back in 1989.

Sport Venture spec is a familiar trim too, as the previous third-generation ‘NC’ car was also available in this special edition form. It too featured the same Deep Crystal Blue paint finish and silver trim highlights; 1,219 examples were sold in the UK.
