McLaren reveals new 570S Design Edition models

562bhp 570S now comes with red, black, white, orange and grey trims, created by McLaren's own designers

McLaren has revealed five new special edition versions of its 570S supercar, showcasing what McLaren’s own designers can come up with when let loose with the configurator.

The five cars are part of the Design Edition range. Each one features a different combination of colours, wheels, materials and interiors to make them stand out, building on the ‘By McLaren’ personalisation packages already offered.

For now, McLaren has only released pictures of Design Edition 1. This model comes finished in a striking Vermillion Red, combined with five-spoke wheels in diamond cut finish, red brake calipers and black ‘Stealth’ exhausts.

2016's best supercars

Inside it gets an interior to match the red paint finish, using McLaren’s ready-made Jet Black and Apex Red colour scheme. The seats are trimmed in red Nappa leather and black Alcantara, while the dashboard and steering wheel are finished with two-tone black and red leather. Everything is bound together with contrasting slate grey stitching.

If red doesn’t take your fancy, the other four might. They’ll be using black, white, grey and orange colour schemes.

While the Design Edition cars take away the fun of speccing and personalising your very own supercar, McLaren says that the potential savings may soften the blow. Opting for any of the Design Edition packages will cost £8,500, while specifying the design tweaks individually would cost much more.

Order books for the five cars are open now, and buyers will receive their cars in 2017.

The McLaren 570S is one of our favourite supercars, and we named the British Porsche 911 Turbo S rival our Performance Car of the Year for 2016.

Priced from £146,150, it’s built around a light, stiff carbon fibre tub, and is powered by McLaren’s ubiquitous 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8, producing 562bhp. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox, with 0-62mph taking 3.1 seconds before a top speed of 204mph.
