MINI John Cooper Works 1to6 Edition to debut at 2023 Nurburgring 24-hour race

The blacked-out MINI JCW 1to6 Edition is around £7,000 more than a standard car, but offers exclusivity and a big specification

MINI is playing up to its motorsport heritage with a new special edition of its John Cooper Works hot hatch. The MINI JCW 1to6 Edition offers a black-themed colour scheme plus the 6-speed manual gearbox with stainless steel pedals referenced in its name. It’s priced just under £40,000 and only 150 of the 999 production run will come to the UK.

The original connection between Mini and race car engineer, John Cooper, was born of a desire to bring extra performance to the humble hatchback for competition purposes. Now the modern MINI brand is looking to emphasise those historic motorsport connections with the 1to6 Edition being unveiled at the 2023 Nurburgring 24-hour race.

The car is the standard MINI John Cooper Works hot hatch with its 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine developing 227bhp for a 0-62mph acceleration time of 6.3 seconds. The fixed 1to6 Edition specification includes the manual gearbox and steel pedal set as well as Midnight Black metallic paint for the exterior bodywork, piano black trim, darkened rear glass and 18-inch Jet Black Circuit Spoke alloy wheels. It’s a car you could easily lose in a poorly lit car park.

The centre bonnet stripe features a manual transmission graphic and runs the length of the vehicle, while special ‘1to6 Editon’ badging is found on the C-pillars.

Inside, that same emblem appears on the sills and mats as well as on the leather steering wheel and the passenger side of the dash. There’s “1 of 999” lettering on the dash and the glass of the panoramic sunroof, too.

Red accents add a hint of colour to the cabin, such as the stitching on the gear knob, the ambient lighting and the instrument cluster bezel. The car also comes with a special key repeating that 1to6 Edition logo.

In a bid to further justify a list price of £39,600 - close to a £7,000 bump over the £32,755 standard JCW manual - the MINI John Cooper Works 1to6 Edition has heated seats, electric folding mirrors, a reversing camera and parking assist. That’s on top of the 8.8-inch touchscreen navigation system, head-up display and Harman Kardon surround sound stereo upgrade already included on the base car.

The 150 UK MINI John Cooper Works 1to6 Editions are available to order now and if you happen to be at the Nurburgring for the 24h race this weekend, you can be among the first to see one in the metal.
