Smart ForTwo Cabrio Brabus Edition hits Geneva 2016

Smart unveils Brabus Edition of dinky ForTwo drop-top, with sporty styling add-ons but no extra performance

Smart has revealed the spicy ForTwo Cabrio Brabus Edition at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, but don’t get too excited – there are no performance upgrades yet. The limited edition instead gets a striking new paint scheme and trim upgrades inside, yet it still comes at a cost.

The Brabus Edition of the tiny drop-top runabout costs from 29,950 Euros in Germany (around £24,000), based on existing Passion spec with the 89bhp 900cc turbo petrol and a dual-clutch gearbox. For that, you get the vibrant matt blue paint job and a titanium grey soft-top, plus a multitude of Brabus badges to mark it out.

Inside, the ForTwo gets black and white Artico fake leather upholstery, heated seats, the Cool and Media package bringing climate control and a seven-inch touchscreen, and blue trim parts on the dash and doors.

A Brabus Sports package is included, and is also available as a separate option for regular Smart models. It brings a front spoiler, side skirts and 17-inch ’Monoblock IX’ matt grey alloys, plus stiffer suspension that’s 10mm lower. There’s a new, Brabus-specific leather multifunction steering wheel, a leather-trimmed gearknob and handbrake, and brushed stainless steel pedals. It adds 1,900 Euros (around £1,500) to the price of the basic ForTwo.

The Smart ForTwo Brabus Edition is limited to just 200 vehicles, and is expected to reach dealers in May. Brabus purists shouldn’t despair, however, as the bespoke German outfit is rumoured to be working on a faster version of the existing Smart ForTwo and FourFour alongside the Renault Twingo GT. Details of those cars are scarce, however.
