All-electric SsangYong e-SIV SUV concept points to next Korando

SsangYong has revealed the e-SIV concept at the Geneva Motor Show, which showcases the brand’s future commitment to EVs

SsangYong has previewed the next-generation Korando with an all-electric SUV concept called the e-SIV, which has been revealed at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show.

The Korean brand says that the car showcases its future approach and commitment to electrified vehicles, connectivity and autonomous driving, while the design study itself is a sneak peek at the next Korando, due in 2019.

As a result, some contemporary SsangYong design elements – such as the strong rear shoulder haunches – are in place. But overall the concept is quite a departure from anything the brand has released so far.

The thick, angled C-pillar at the rear of the car joins up with a steeply raked back window, to give the e-SIV some coupe-SUV credentials. Inside, the dash is a full-width infotainment display, while the interior space is bright and airy, with four individual seats.

Under the skin, SsangYong envisages a 140kW (188bhp) electric powertrain, with power supplied from a 61.5kWh battery. A maximum range of 280 miles is claimed, as is a top speed of 93mph.

The e-SIV is equipped with a radar and camera system, unlocking some semi-autonomous capabilities. The ‘stage 2’ tech on board means that it can recognise lane markings using the cameras and maintain a safe distance from vehicles ahead using the radar system. The next step is to include an additional sensor for automatic lane changes.
