Toyota Corolla Touring Sports estate to debut at Paris 2018

Toyota has taken the covers off the new Corolla Touring Sports, which boasts a 178bhp hybrid powertrain and a roomy rear end

Toyota has revealed the new Corolla Touring Sports, which replaces the outgoing Auris Touring Sports and is set to make its first public appearance at the 2018 Paris Motor Show. The estate is to come with three powertrains: two hybrids and just one conventional internal combustion engine.

The hybrid options consist of a 120bhp 1.8-litre until and a new, 178bhp 2.0-litre unit. Motorists wanting a more traditional powerplant, however, can specify a 114bhp 1.2-litre turbo petrol. The Touring Sports uses MacPherson struts at the front and an all-new multilink system on the rear – and for the first time on a Corolla, there is the option of adaptive variable suspension.

Equipment available (albeit not all as standard) includes: head-up display, JBL GreenEdge Premium sound system and wireless phone charging. While cargo space is a decent 598 litres – 68 litres more than the current Auris Touring Sports – and full-LED lights help finish off the rear end.

The front the Touring Sports shows its clear relationship to the hatchbacked Corolla revealed earlier this year, with a sharp new design and large grille. At the back there is a sharply angled rear window and a bumper which the marque claims “reflects the catamaran shape that features in Toyota’s current design language”.

Prices and production dates for the new Corolla Touring Sports have yet to be revealed, but with the hatchback due to arrive in early 2019 and expected to start around the £20,000, don’t expect the estate to stray too far from this. Also, with the Paris Motor Show just a month away, expect more details to arrive soon.
