Volvo V40 R-Design revealed

Production-ready Volvo V40 R-Design gets a unique grille and big alloys

Volvo has revealed its sporty V40 R-Design at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. It gets a high-gloss front grille, chunkier bumpers with integrated foglamps and a lower air intake, as well as a rear diffuser and twin tailpipes.

There’s ‘silk’ metal detailing around the grille and windows, and 17-inch five-spoke alloy wheels as standard, with a special 18-inch design optional.

The V40 R-Design is available with a 10mm lower Sports chassis, featuring firmer suspension and stiffer anti-roll bars. This was developed with tuner Polestar, which is also behind the Rebel Blue paint – one of seven choices.

Inside are a sports steering wheel and pedals, plus Nubuck fabric seats with a blue R-Design logo.

The R-Design is offered with all engines, from the 113bhp D2 turbodiesel – emitting 94g/km of CO2 – to the new 250bhpT5 flagship, which covers 0-62mph in 6.5 seconds.

The T5 will arrive in November, costing from around £30,000, while the V40 R-Design will be launched next month, with prices starting at £21,720.
