Range Rover LWB revealed at the LA Motor Show

The Range Rover LWB has been unveiled at the LA Motor Show, along with a long-wheelbase Autobiography Black edition

The new long-wheelbase version of the Range Rover has just been revealed at the LA Motor Show, boasting more rear leg room for increased passenger comfort.

The Range Rover narrowly missed out to the Mercedes S-Class in our luxury car shoot-out, partly due to its cramped rear seats - and the new Range Rover LWB won't have that problem any more.

By lengthening the wheelbase by 200mm, engineers have added an extra 140mm of rear legroom – a crucial selling point in markets like China and the Middle East.

Select the individual executive seating package, and the rear seats recline by up to 17 degrees – nine degrees more than before – while an extra 315 litres of boot space has been added, taking the maximum to 2,345 litres.

There’s a downside to the extra space, though: the LWB car is 80kg heavier than the standard Range Rover, while the 0-60mph time in the 503bhp supercharged model increases by four-tenths to 5.5 seconds. Economy and CO2 are 1.6mpg and 23g/km worse, too.

The long-wheelbase model is available with the 339bhp 4.4-litre V8 diesel, too, but only in Autobiography trim and above, and is expected to cost £5,000 more than the standard car.

There will also be a LWB-only Autobiography Black edition, which was unviled at the Dubai Motor Show earlier this month. Costing between £130,000 and £140,000, with deliveries beginning next August, it includes every possible extra.

Rear passengers are treated to 10.2-inch entertainment screens, electrically deployable tables and a luxury centre console. Extended LED mood lighting, extra leather and four unique colour schemes complete the opulent makeover.
