The new Nissan Hyper Punk is a concept car for influencers

Nissan says the Hyper Punk offers seamless connectivity between the ‘virtual and physical’ world

Nissan is drip feeding us five concepts that will appear at the Tokyo Motor Show next week and the penultimate car is a wacky all-electric crossover called the Nissan Hyper Punk.

We’ve already seen the Hyper Tourer MPV, the Hyper Adventure off-roader and the Hyper Urban crossover in the past few weeks but the Hyper Punk is designed as a smaller offering, aimed at ‘content creators and influencers’ according to Nissan.

A fully-electric car like the other concepts, the Hyper Punk features ‘vehicle-to-everything’ technology, meaning it can not only charge appliances from its on-board battery but also power buildings.

The exterior is bold, as we’ve come to expect from this series of Nissan concepts. It’s ‘defined by polygonal surfaces’ says Nissan and the silver paint shifts in colour depending on the viewing angle. There’s plenty of triangular detailing - prominent in the lights, bumper and the whopping 23-inch wheels. Short overhangs front and rear along with a stubby wheelbase make the Hyper Punk “ideal for both city and off-road driving”, according to Nissan.

The interior, which is accessed via a butterfly-style door, is a fairly minimalist affair. There’s origami-styled elements in the cabin’s design and Nissan says the onboard cameras can capture scenery around the car and convert it using AI to create a ‘manga-style’ pattern on the three-screen display wrapping around the driver.

Like the Hyper Tourer, the Hyper Punk can detect the driver’s mood and set music and lighting to convey their ‘energy and creativity’. The car can also connect to various devices and provide ‘seamless internet’.

The Hyper Punk will join its Hyper concept car siblings at the Tokyo Motor Show on 25 October.
