Toyota Land Cruiser Invincible X aims to take Toyota's SUV premium

New range-topping version of Toyota's SUV includes a games console setup and a suite of driver assists, but a Range Rover Sport price.

Toyota Land Cruiser Invincible X

Toyota has revealed a new range topping Land Cruiser 4x4, with an emphasis on exterior styling tweaks plus extra luxuries and equipment in the cabin.

Called the Land Cruiser Invincible X, it’s distinguished on the outside by chromed wing mirror casings, a chromed exhaust tip and contrasting black 18-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, the Land Cruiser Invincible X gets a full leather upholstery – available in black, ivory or two tone black and brown – with equipment highlights such as a Blu-Ray DVD and gaming entertainment setup for the rear seats, triple-zone air conditioning, a premium surround sound system and the Toyota Touch 2 infotainment setup with satellite navigation.

Continuing on the technology side of things, a suite of driver assists are thrown in as standard. A pre-collision warning system makes the cut, alongside adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist. Rear cross traffic warning setup and blind spot monitor round up the features.

The Land Cruiser is known for being a dependable and reliable off-roader, ideal for when the going gets tough, so the flash equipment is an attempt to distance it from its agricultural reputation. However, it will still wade through water up to 700mm deep, and can climb or traverse slopes up to 42° steep.

Under the bonnet is a 2.8-litre D-4D turbocharged turbodiesel engine serving up 174bhp and 450Nm of torque. A six-speed automatic gearbox is included as standard on the Invincible X.

The Land Cruiser in its most basic guise costs £36,390, though the Invincible X with its extra kit and standard automatic gearbox comes in at £57,880 starting – less than £2,000 behind the starting price of a Range Rover Sport.
